Removing HTML Formatting from a Products Description
Overview
This article explains how to remove unsupported HTML formatting from a product description in StoreFeeder. This is relevant when listing to channels such as Amazon that only allow basic HTML tags.
Amazon-safe HTML tags
The following tags are acceptable for Amazon descriptions:
<b> </b>— bold text<br>— line break<p> </p>— paragraph<ul><li> </li></ul>— bullet points
Identifying the problem
Below is an example of a description in Design mode that was pasted from a web page. It retains its original formatting:

In HTML mode, you can see the unsupported tags that may cause errors when submitting the listing:

Removing HTML using Notepad
This is the recommended approach as it removes all unsupported formatting automatically.
- In Design view, select all the text, right-click, and cut it.
- Confirm that both Design and HTML view are now blank.
- Open Notepad on your computer.
- Paste the text into Notepad. This strips all formatting from the text.

- Select all the text in Notepad and copy it.
- Paste the text back into the product description in Design view.

- Check HTML view to confirm that unsupported tags have been removed. The text may appear bunched together — add your own line breaks as needed.

Things to consider
Product descriptions for new listings are always copied from the product description in StoreFeeder, so keeping the base description as simple as possible is good practice. You can then add richer formatting directly on the listing for channels that support it.
Changes made to the product description are not automatically replicated to listing descriptions. If you need to update a description after a listing has been created, make sure you are editing the listing description, not just the product description.
