Moving Variants From One Parent Product To Another
Overview
This article explains how to move a child variant from one parent product to another in StoreFeeder using the product export and import process.
Step 1 — Create the new parent product
Create a new parent product and add the same variant attributes as the original parent. For example, if the original product has Size and Colour attributes, add both to the new product.
Leave the initial placeholder child product on the new parent for now — it is required to save the product but will be removed later.
Step 2 — Export and update the parent SKU
- Export all products, making sure to include Standard Fields, Custom Attributes, and Variation Attributes.
- In the exported file, find the child product you want to move and update its Parent Product SKU column to the SKU of the new parent product.
The example below shows the original associations before any changes. Products are linked to SKUA-Parent, and SKUB-Parent is the newly created parent with its placeholder variant:

In the next image, SKU4, SKU5, and SKU6 have been reassigned to the new parent by updating their Parent SKU. The placeholder variant has been deleted:

Tip: If your placeholder SKU contains a recognisable phrase, you can use find-and-replace to remove those rows from the file quickly.
- Import the updated file through Product Import/Export > Update Existing.
The image below shows the final state of the child products after reassignment:

All product information, including inventory and variations, moves with the child product to the new parent.
